Describe a Hobby You Enjoy — Cue Card

Describe a hobby you enjoy. You should say: what the hobby is, when you started it, how often you do it, and explain why you enjoy it.

One minute to prepare, two minutes to speak. Pick the hobby you actually do — fluency comes from truth, not from impressiveness.

My hobby is urban sketching — drawing buildings and street scenes in a small notebook, usually with a fineliner pen. I started about four years ago during a lunch break when I was bored of scrolling my phone, and I have filled eleven notebooks since.

I sketch maybe three times a week. There is a bench near my office where I sit for twenty minutes and draw whatever is in front of me — a bakery, a bus stop, once a very uncooperative pigeon. I am not particularly good, which is precisely why I love it. My drawings are wonky, but every page is a record of somewhere I actually stopped and looked.

Why do I enjoy it? Because it is the only part of my day where I am not consuming anything. Everything else — work, news, even entertainment — is input. Sketching is twenty minutes of output, and I finish it feeling like I made something, however crooked.

It is honest about skill level ('not particularly good') and specific about ritual (the bench, twenty minutes, eleven notebooks). Modesty plus numbers sounds authentic and confident.

The final reflection — input versus output — gives the examiner a genuinely thoughtful reason, not 'it relaxes me'. One original idea outperforms five adjectives.

Expect: Do hobbies need to be productive? Why do some people have no hobbies? Should schools teach hobbies?

Argue a position. 'Hobbies should be useless — that is the point' is a stronger Part 3 answer than balanced vagueness.

For describing habits: three times a week, I have kept it up for years, it has become a ritual, whenever I get the chance.

For the 'why': it is my way of switching off, it forces me to slow down, I finish it feeling like. Avoid 'it is relaxing' — every candidate says it.
