IELTS fees at a glance

Two organisations run IELTS tests in these countries: the British Council and IDP (in India, only IDP). Each one publishes its own fees for each country. We show every fee in the local currency, exactly as the provider’s own website states it. We checked every page on 7 October 2026.

Every fee page we checked lists one price for both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. So the fee depends on the country, the provider and the kind of test, not on Academic or General Training.

IELTS on computer means you take the test on a computer at a test centre. Our guide to computer-delivered IELTS explains how it works. IELTS for UKVI is a version of IELTS for UK visa applications (UKVI stands for UK Visas and Immigration).

What the other fee names mean

IELTS Life Skills is an English test for some UK visa applicants, for example people joining family in the UK. A1 and B1 are levels on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). It is a six-level scale of language ability, from A1 for beginners up to C2. IELTS says A1 is for some family visas and B1 is for UK citizenship or for staying in the UK permanently.

One Skill Retake lets you take one part of the test again, for example only Writing, after a full IELTS on computer test. IELTS SELT is a name IDP Pakistan uses in its One Skill Retake fees. SELT stands for secure English language test, which the UK government says you may need to pass for a visa or citizenship application.

Enquiry on Results is a remark: senior examiners mark your test again. Change of test date is the fee to move your booking to a new date. Your Test Report Form (TRF) is the document that shows your scores.

Both the British Council and IDP run IELTS in Bangladesh. The British Council says its exam fee in Bangladesh “includes free and exclusive preparation materials, free IELTS practice tests and much more.”

IELTS fee in India

Only IDP runs IELTS in India. The British Council says that “from 25 July 2021, IDP will be the sole distributor of IELTS testing in India.”

IDP India says IELTS on Paper has been discontinued. Instead it offers IELTS Writing on Paper: you take Listening and Reading on a computer and write your Writing answers on paper. It costs the same as IELTS on computer, INR 19,000, at every test centre.

IDP India says you can pay by credit or debit card, net banking, demand draft or bank deposit at ICICI or HDFC branches.

IELTS fee in Pakistan

Both the British Council and IDP run IELTS in Pakistan. For both the British Council and IDP, the fee for IELTS on computer depends on the city of the test centre, as the table shows.

The British Council says IELTS on Paper in Pakistan is only for candidates who have special approval on medical grounds, such as hearing, visual or speaking disabilities.

One Skill Retake fees

One Skill Retake is for people who have recently taken a full IELTS on computer test. The British Council says “you must sit the One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original test”, and you can retake only one skill once for each test.

You get a new Test Report Form with your retake score and the scores from your original test. If you prefer your original score, you can still use it. Not every organisation accepts One Skill Retake, so check with yours first: our One Skill Retake guide shows who accepts it. Where a provider does not publish the fee, the table says so: ask that provider.

Other fees: remarks, date changes and extra reports

If you apply for an Enquiry on Results (a remark) and your band score changes, IDP says the fee is refunded. In India, your first 5 extra Test Report Forms sent online to universities are free.

Cancelling usually costs a share of your fee, not a fixed amount. IDP Bangladesh and IDP Pakistan refund 75% of the test fee if you cancel 15 days or more before your test. Both also let you change your test date for free 15 days or more before the test. IDP Pakistan says its rules apply to IELTS on computer only, not to IELTS for UKVI.

IDP or British Council: is there a difference?

In Nepal and Pakistan, the British Council and IDP list the same fees for IELTS on computer and IELTS for UKVI.

In Bangladesh, the British Council and IDP list the same fees for IELTS on computer and IELTS for UKVI, except for some British Council sessions in Rajshahi. Those sessions cost BDT 29,600 for IELTS on computer.

In Pakistan, both charge PKR 75,600 to PKR 76,240 for IELTS on computer, depending on the city, so check your city in the table.

In India, only IDP runs IELTS. Whichever provider you choose, the fee on its own booking page is the price you pay, so check it again before you book.

Results timing and test cities

Test dates and cities change often, so check them on each provider’s own page: IDP in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan, and the British Council in Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. IDP’s booking pages for Bangladesh and Nepal show “Results in 1 to 5 days” for IELTS on computer.

Your result does not last forever. See how long IELTS is valid before you book, so your result is still accepted when you apply.

Fee changes

These are the fee changes we can date. “From” is a date the provider’s own page gave. “Between” gives the last date the old fee was seen and the first date the new fee was seen, on archived copies of the provider’s page or in our own checks.

For other dated IELTS changes, such as where paper IELTS has ended, see IELTS changes in 2026.
